Why Are We Afraid?

Why Are We Afraid?

Fear is the opposite of trusting in God. When we are afraid, we are telling God that we don’t trust him to take care of us.

Fear is a natural human emotion that is usually pointed at the unknown, which is a control issue. We want to be in control of the situation, or we want to know exactly how something is going to play out, or turn out.

Sometimes there is a good reason to be afraid. But that does not mean that we have to be afraid.

Fear is normal, fear is to be expected, but that does not mean we have to give into it.

When has God failed you before? When do you have an instance where he hasn’t been there for you? Why are you afraid? Because you aren’t trusting God to take care of everything.

The Covid 19 Pandemic I think can be summed up in two words: Fear, and Confusion. So many people were afraid, because they didn’t think they were going to be okay. We say God takes care of everything, but how are we defining that in our lives if we are constantly giving into fear, especially about something as minor as sickness? Our God did miracles...he healed the sick. Don’t you think he can heal us?

Now I’m not saying we shouldn’t be careful, or cautious. But being cautious and careful can eventually go as far as to be giving into fear again. It’s a slippery slope, but one that does have footholds.

Isaiah 41:10 says, ‘So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.’

So don’t cling to fear. Cling to faith. Find Faith’s footholds on the slippery slope. They’re much stronger than Fear’s footholds, which are constantly crumbling and growing weak.

Surrender your worries and anxieties to God. He will take care of you.
