Book of the Week! The Wingfeather Saga: On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness

Updated: Aug 14, 2021

Today's book of the week: 'The Wingfeather Saga: On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness' by author and musician Andrew Peterson!

Lo, Beyond the River Blapp---

-Andrew Peterson

The first book in the incredible Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson starts off in the quiet Igiby cottage, in a quiet little town near the Dark Sea of Darkness.

Janner Igiby is tired of watching Leeli and Tink, his two younger siblings. He's tired of being stuck on the edge of the Dark Sea. He wants to sail, far away, just like his father did before him--but who is his father? Janner doesn't even know his father's name. Nia, his mother, never mentions it, and Podo, his Grandfather, never speaks of where they came from. All Janner has is a pencil sketch of a boy that looks just like him standing on a boat, and he's sure it's his father.

But the family secrets can't stay in the dark forever, and soon Janner and his family are on the run from Fangs, watching Sea Dragons, and trying to escape from Gnag the Nameless. Somehow, Janner has the idea that everything that went wrong in his family is because of the Nameless one. Is he right?

The age I would advise for this book would be ten or eleven years old.
