Stephiarde is just another person in the crowd in the Audian capital. Nobody knows him, nobody notices him, and he spends the time he has when he isn't reading books in the Audian Library mending books at Mortimer's Bookstore, run by an elderly man who gives him board and food for his work.

Stephiarde doesn't know anything about his family, and he's very lonely. He has always wondered who his parents were, and why did they left him. But as who Stephiarde really is comes to light, he meets several friends and his true enemy is finally discovered. Will Stephiarde be able to help defend Audian? Or will it be captured by the Dekraines?
